SAN JOSE, CA -- The Discovery Channel has signed a licensing agreement with San Jose-based Tam Communications for a one-hour documentary portraying the lives of ambulance paramedics.

The immediacy of the paramedics' jobs is conveyed in footage gathered in ride-alongs with four pairs of paramedics over a 6-month period in San Jose. Interviews about their careers and personal lives were taped in addition to voice-over narration as the paramedics describe first-hand the risks facing the patients and their own process of determining what treatment to administer in each situation.

As a former Emergency Medical Technician, Tam Communications' Chairman Tam Fraser shot, directed and edited the original show with a focus on the personal lives of the paramedics. Since they routinely face life and death situations, as well as many of the nation's worst social problems on our city streets, paramedics have a unique perspective. Through their interviews and their hands-on experience, their commitment to their work is revealed, as is its effect on their personal lives.

The paramedic documentary is the second agreement signed between Discovery Communications and Tam Communications in recent months. The paramedic documentary will move into final stages of post production immediately following completion of Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, a co-production between the two firms. Tam Fraser and Susan O'Connor Fraser are co-executive producers for both programs; Catherine Sarto wrote the script for the paramedic documentary.
