Tam Communications Brings the Soul of Silicon to DAC '98

SAN JOSE, CA -- Like other design integration companies, Mountain View-based Synopsys planned to exhibit its capabilities at the 35th annual Design Automation Conference in June. The conference, held at San Francisco's Moscone Center, featured hundreds of companies displaying their products and services to thousands of visitors. With so many competitors vying for the visitors' attention, Synopsys, a recognized leader in design automation software, needed a compelling and exciting suite of presentations, and chose San Jose-based visual communications company Tam Communications to produce it.

Utilizing Synopsys' theme, "Soul of Silicon," Tam created four videos for the booth, each consistently conveying the theme while focusing on a different aspect of Synopsys' "Soul." The effects-intensive theater video, combining studio footage with scenery shot at Villa Montolvo in Saratoga, emphasized the power of creativity and innovation, made more powerful through Synopsys tools. Original music by Pat Mosca joined with the footage and graphics to reflect the necessary vision and inspiration of Synopsys customers as they work to perfect "system on a chip" technology. In addition, two customer videos described Synopsys' relationships with Siemens and ARM, explaining the benefits of partnering with Synopsys through on-site video and interviews with employees of the two firms. The final video attracted visitors to the reception and registration area of the booth. All presentations ran off laserdisk, and the theater piece was displayed on a thin plexiglass screen, which made the Synopsys exhibit stand out even further.

Tam Communications' Susan O'Connor Fraser wrote and produced the four videos, and Tam Fraser directed the videos and shot all the footage. Art Director Sandra Silva enlisted Aaron Dingman and Sunny Su to create 3-D and 2-D graphics, respectively, and Ed Cook completed the presentations as editor and compositor.
