SAN JOSE, CA -- Tam Communications recently announced completion of the BicycleLINK informational CD-ROM and web site (www.bicyclelink.com), both commissioned by Berkeley-based Centric Media, Inc. The complementary web site and CD-ROM provide bicycle enthusiasts with volumes of information about this popular pastime.
Now available for purchase in bike shops, over the Internet, and through CD wholesalers, the BicycleLINK CD is a substantial resource for those seeking information on anything bicycle-related -- types of bikes, bicycle advocacy, bike equipment and accessories, proper bicycle fitting and more. It includes the full 1999 Bicycle Blue Book, which provides estimated bicycle values for both new and used bikes, and the "Bicycle Yellow Pages," which lists thousands of bicycle-related companies -- shops, organizations and manufacturers from all over the nation. The "Let's Ride!" section offers articles about the bicycle industry and other general information, such as tips on buying and selling and suggestions for teaching a child to ride.
The CD also allows users to take anti-theft precautions and register their bikes with Centric Media, either by connecting to the web site or sending in a registration card. Registration makes stolen bicycles easier to identify, locate, and return.
Like the CD, the BicycleLINK web site gives users access to the Blue Book and Bicycle Yellow Pages, and provides online bicycle registration. In addition, the web site offers free classified listings to visitors. The Tam crew integrated e-commerce into the site, enabling visitors to register their bicycles, purchase Blue Book listings and order the CD and Blue Book online using secure transactions. Future enhancements of the web site will include news articles and access to an archive of bike-related magazines.
The CD and the web site share the same look and feel, both utilizing a bicycle motif, with the Centric BicycleLINK logo incorporated into the art. Tam's Sandra Silva provided art direction and Sunny Su art. Nathan Guerra and Karen Toensfeldt programmed the CD, which required significant database programming, and Timothy O'Connor Fraser headed up the creation of the web site. The massive project, which includes eight databases, was managed by Executive Producer Siiri Tuckwood.
"Tam Communications helped realize our business plan by creating an easy-to-use interface and a fresh look and feel on our CD and at our web site," said Eddie Orton, Principal, Centric Media, Inc. "Siiri Tuckwood and her crew were wonderful to work with as well."
