SAN JOSE, CA -- Tam Communications announced today that it signed a deal with Discovery Communications to produce two more documentaries in the coming year. Preemies: Life in the NICU and High Seas Cops will both air on the Discovery Channel, and are indicative of the San Jose visual communications company's success in producing high-quality nonfiction programming. Tam's first two one-hour programs, Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers and Street Medics, aired on the Discovery Channel in the fall of 1998.

Preemies is currently being shot on location at the top three neonatal facilities in Northern California: Stanford Hospital's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, San Jose's Valley Medical Center, and UCSF. The documentary will follow several families through the difficult choices and emotional struggles related to premature births. Additionally, Preemies will explore the dramatic scientific breakthroughs that have enabled doctors to save many more premature babies than ever before, and the adverse medical conditions that can occur as a result. The program is scheduled for completion in May of 1999, and will air in the third quarter of that year.

High Seas Cops will follow the Coast Guard LEDETs, Law Enforcement Detachment Teams, as they crack down on drug smugglers and illegal immigrants on the open seas. The Tam production team will begin shooting the piece in January, accompanying a Navy and Coast Guard crew in the Caribbean. High Seas Cops is scheduled for June completion, and will premiere in the fourth quarter of 1999.

The programs will be written by Susan O’Connor Fraser and directed by Tam Fraser, both of whom will serve as executive producers.
