SAN JOSE, CA -- In a recent deal, the Travel Channel purchased a minimum of 26 half-hour episodes of Tam Communications' internationally syndicated reality show, Coast Guard, which initially aired from 1995-1998 on hundreds of stations worldwide.
The first syndicated series produced entirely in San Jose, and the only reality show about a branch of the military, Coast Guard highlights the exciting, real-life search and rescue, law enforcement and marine mammal protection missions conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The deal, secured by distributor MG/Perin, requires Tam to rewrite and reedit segments of the existing program into new episodes, incorporating a travel or vacation focus. Additionally, Tam has recruited the host of the original program, local actor Scott Morris, to deliver new material in the modified episodes, including travel tips. The show will air as Vacation S.O.S.
The Travel Channel plans to air three episodes a week of the retitled and reedited program on prime time, beginning in July.
