Tam Communications and Lucile Packard Children's Hospitals to Host Preemies Premiere

SAN JOSE, CA -- On September 14, Tam Communications, a leading Bay Area production company, and Lucile Packard Children's Hospitals, the pediatric division of UCSF Stanford Health Care, will host the premiere party for Preemies: The Fight for Life. This one-hour documentary, produced by Tam Communications for the Discovery Channel, follows the struggles of two premature infants and their families, taking an in-depth look at some of the nation's premier centers for neonatal care: Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at UCSF, and San Jose's Valley Medical Center.

The September 14 event will be held at Fairchild Auditorium at Stanford University Medical Center, commemorating the extraordinary medical advances made by local doctors and researchers that have distinguished the Bay Area as the worldwide leader in the field of neonatology. San Jose-based Tam Communications, seeking to educate viewers on this fascinating medical specialty and the challenges facing premature infants and their doctors and nurses, shot Preemies: The Fight for Life over a one-month period in December of 1998. The completed program will be shown for the first time at the premiere event.

"We see the event as a celebration of the miracles that these doctors and nurses work every day," said Tam Fraser, co-executive producer and director of Preemies: The Fight for Life. "It was a wonderful experience working with Lucile Packard Children's Hospitals and Valley Medical Center. Their dedication to their patients could not be greater, and we are thrilled that we can share their story with a nation of viewers."

After the initial showing at the premiere event, the special will air on the Discovery Channel on September 19 at 10 pm and 2 am, and September 26 at 6 pm.

"We are pleased to be a part of this documentary," said Christopher Dawes, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Lucile Packard Children's Hospitals. "We believe it will offer viewers around the country a rare and fascinating look into the care of premature infants and advances in neonatology."
