SAN JOSE, CA - Tam Communications, the leading San Jose-based provider of strategic
digital communications solutions, has added DVD encoding and authoring to its in-house
arsenal of video and multimedia solutions.
The Sonic DVD Fusion with SD-1000 encoding system from Sonic Solutions is built on the
same platform as the company's high-end Creator system. It provides variable bit rate
MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 encoding in real time. It can accept input from any serial video source,
including Tam's Digital Betacam on-line suite or any of its 3 Avid digital non-linear edit
systems.
The system also includes a sophisticated DVD authoring tool. DVD Fusion's combination
of a graphical project view with timeline-based assembly of individual assets provides
powerful authoring. Simple programs can be authored in minutes, creating navigation with
drag-and-drop editing. It also includes an array of advanced features and fine-tuning
controls to create more complex commercial titles.
This powerful addition to Tam's technical capabilities enables the company to offer high
quality encoding and authoring of DVD masters in-house. It will also allow clients to view
approval copies of video-based programs from DVD, rather than VHS tape.
"Adding real-time MPEG encoding and DVD authoring to our mix of services is part of our
long-standing strategy to adopt new technologies as the market matures," said
Timothy O'Connor Fraser, Tam Communications CEO. "Since we are a digital media provider,
it makes perfect sense that we are able to output to a high quality digital playback medium,"
he added.
