Scotts Valley, CA - As the Bureau of Land Management relies more heavily on computerization and the Internet to conduct its business, communicating how these changes will affect the organization became a high priority. The agency’s new CIO, reached across the country and tapped Tam Communications to create the video that would be used to explain the problems that she hoped to solve with technology. “Making IT Work” was the end-result. A five-minute video that included interviews with BLM staffers and one end-user and a lot of b-roll and graphics emphasizing how making IT work can make the organization more efficient and more effective.
Tam’s Executive Producer and Creative Director, Susan O’Connor Fraser, wrote the script and produced the piece. Associate Producer Maria Dilisio coordinated production in Utah and Denver. Additional footage was pulled from Tam’s stock footage library and from the Bureau’s own video library. Director/Cameraman/Editor, Tam Fraser, then had the task of editing the story together.
The biggest challenge, however, was time. Working without the benefit of in-person meetings, using the Internet and email as primary communication vehicles, O’Connor Fraser, had less than four weeks to deliver the finished piece. The deadline was met and the video debuted to an enthusiastic audience on site at the management conference in Anchorage, Alaska.
