SCOTTS VALLEY, CA--It was in 2001 when Tam Communications created the first fund-raising video for Sacred Heart Community Service, the San Jose-based agency that provides food, clothing and other services to low-income families and individuals. The video helped raise more than a half-million dollars at the first breakfast event it was shown. Sacred Heart went on to show it at various events for four and a half years (with only small updates over that period of time) to help raise an additional $1.5 million. Since most of the Sacred Heart employees featured in the video had moved on from the agency including the Executive Director, it was obviously time for an update. Tam's Executive Producer/Creative Director, Susan O'Connor Fraser, who wrote the original script, met with Sacred Heart's new Executive Director, Poncho Guevara, to outline what needed to be done. While some of the footage from the original video could still be used, all of the interviews had to be reshot. The biggest challenge was that the work needed to be completed in six weeks.

Susan outlined the updated script and then created the shooting schedule, working with Margarita Villa who coordinated for Sacred Heart. New interviews with Sacred Heart staffers and volunteers were coordinated along with three new Sacred Heart client stories. Director/Cameraman, Tam O'Connor Fraser, spent three days in production in San Jose, shooting b-roll and interviews with another day of shooting required under the direction of Tam's David Troustine. Then it was into post. The several hours of interviews were transcribed and then the script rewritten based on the new interviews. Tam did an initial and fine cut edit of the video for client approval and then the voice over was recorded at Wave Group Sound in Fremont with narrator Heather Mathieson. Tam then pulled the final piece together including music and graphics. It was then authored to DVD for playback at Sacred Heart's fund-raising reception.
