SCOTTS VALLEY, CA--It was in August of 2005 when Tam Communications was in production on the Coast Guard promo that the company interviewed Director, Andrew Davis, then in pre-production on the motion picture "The Guardian." After the interview, Davis shared a promo for the film that was used to pitch the project to the actors (Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher) and the studio. While copies of Tam's "Rescue Swimmer" and "Perfect Storm Rescues" programs had been delivered to the film's producers months before, it was still surprising to find that Tam footage comprised about 75% of the promotional video. In addition to being used in the promo, the Tam-produced footage was being used for pre-visualization; helping the production team conceive angles that would later be used in live action production and computer graphic sequences.
Additional footage was also poised for use in one of the scenes in the actual movie and this last month, as the film was readied for release, additional requirements were laid out. Footage and information was needed for "The Guardian" web site, http://theguardianmovies.go.com for a section called "Amazing Rescues". Additional material was delivered for "On the Set: The Guardian", a behind-the-scenes look at the motion picture, airing this month on Starz. And as the DVD extras are being produced, additional footage was requested. A copy of "Helicopters to the Rescue" was sent to the DVD producers, Playground Media, and is now an integral part of the DVD. "It's been great to be associated with this project in so many ways," comments Tam O'Connor Fraser. "Our relationship with the Coast Guard dates back over ten years and it's very satisfying to realize that we've played a part in getting this film made and in its promtion. From what we've seen, it's going to be a powerful tribute to these real-life heroes."
Simultaneous with the release of the movie, Tam Communications has launched a web site to sell their programs featuring real Coast Guard rescues. These specials, produced in association with Discovery, are available on DVD for the first time. The web site can be accessed via a link from "The Guardian" web site or direct at www.coastguardrescues.com.
